A former Soviet republic, Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe and faces many public health challenges: infectious disease (HIV, TB), non-communicable diseases (heart disease, cancers, diabetes), addictions, trafficking, rural health care delivery, and others. This makes for many internship possibilities in a country which – culturally, politically, and in terms of its health system – is intriguingly different from the United States.
